アングルス先生のレクチャー

Overall, I really enjoyed Professor Angles' poetry lecture this weekend. It didn't feel like a lecture at all because he was so enthusiastic about his work and was very personable when interacting with us. I also like that he appreciated and recognized other poets as well. It showed how humble he was and who his inspirations were and even introduced us to more Japanese poets and other poets who write in non-native tongues. I liked his accommodation in translating between English and Japanese, especially since we're still beginners, and showed the translations on the screen as he read. I was able to connect his lecture to the classes I'm taking this semester. Besides Japanese, this lecture gave me a lot of insight on language for my Linguistic Anthropology class and poetry for my Reading to Create: Poetry Workshop class.  I even brought my friend along who loves and writes poetry, and even though she didn't know an ounce of Japanese, she was able to enjoy and appreciate the lecture and hear some new poetry. I even plan on reading some of his books and some of the other works he translated like Godzilla Raids Again (when it comes out), Writing the Love of Boys, and Wildgrass on the Riverbank (originally by Ito Hiromi).

3/20 Listening!

 花冷え。-  お先に失礼します。

I have once again come across another video on YouTube that caught my eye. I auto-played from a previous video I was watching and I'm glad it did. I'm a big rock fan and have been trying to get into J-Rock lately so this was a wonderful addition to my J-Rock playlist. I had never heard of this band and this song is still new, but I will definitely start listening to them more. The lead singer's transition from her cutesy voice to her screamo voice is so awesome! I also liked how the music video addressed the workplace harassment problem that women face and retaliation against it. It was also interesting to see the Japanese for "excuse me" since I've just gotten used to saying it as I leave class that I didn't think about the kanji or hiragana for it. Just by the sound of the title, I knew what it meant without even looking at it, so that was good to recognize. I also recognized some hiragana and kanji when I turned on the Japanese subtitles: 先, 日曜日, わくわく, 未, 分からない, いつ, 目と目, 上, 見, 出, etc.
