アングルス先生のレクチャー

Overall, I really enjoyed Professor Angles' poetry lecture this weekend. It didn't feel like a lecture at all because he was so enthusiastic about his work and was very personable when interacting with us. I also like that he appreciated and recognized other poets as well. It showed how humble he was and who his inspirations were and even introduced us to more Japanese poets and other poets who write in non-native tongues. I liked his accommodation in translating between English and Japanese, especially since we're still beginners, and showed the translations on the screen as he read. I was able to connect his lecture to the classes I'm taking this semester. Besides Japanese, this lecture gave me a lot of insight on language for my Linguistic Anthropology class and poetry for my Reading to Create: Poetry Workshop class.  I even brought my friend along who loves and writes poetry, and even though she didn't know an ounce of Japanese, she was able to enjoy and appreciate the lecture and hear some new poetry. I even plan on reading some of his books and some of the other works he translated like Godzilla Raids Again (when it comes out), Writing the Love of Boys, and Wildgrass on the Riverbank (originally by Ito Hiromi).
